Welcome from the Year 7 Progress Leader
Welcome to Year 7!
I am delighted to say that I will be the Year 7 Progress Leader, working closely with Mr Dhillon (Pastoral Year Manager) and together we will provide the support and guidance you require to succeed at Derby Moor.
Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and we are delighted to welcome you to our school community. This year marks the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunities to learn, grow, discover new interests and make lasting friendships.
Year 7 is a time of new experiences, new subjects, new teachers and new routines. It is completely normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves as you begin this journey. Remember that everyone is starting something new together, and our staff are here to support and guide you every step of the way.
To our parents and carers: Thank you for entrusting us with the important stage of your child’s education. We look forward to working together and celebrating the successes and experiences that they year will ahead will bring.

What about Tutor Time?
You will see your form tutor every morning (with the exception of a Wednesday), therefore they will be the member of staff in school that you will know best. They will give you your timetable and any other information you require during your Academic Year. At Derby Moor Spencer Academy you will participate in a variety of mandatory activities linked to Derby Moor’s ethos and values but not limited to:
- Assemblies
- Life Skills
- Employability and Homework development and support
- Attendance/Behaviour/Pastoral Data
- Careers and Unifrog Information sessions
If you need to contact your child’s tutor, please contact school and ask for a message to be passes onto your child tutor, or email Mrs Hill or Mr Dhillon (as above) and we will pass the message on.
Attendance
Regular attendance helps children get into good learning habits and grow into trustworthy, resilient young adults. Attending school regularly and punctually is also essential if young people are to make the most of the opportunities available to them and develop personal qualities expected in the workplace. Therefore, all children are required by law to punctually attend school 190 days per year, unless there is an agreed, authorised reason why they cannot. The attendance target for all students is 100%, with a minimum attendance expectation of 97%. This equates to missing 1 week (5 days or 25 lessons) per academic year.

Welcome from the Year 8 Progress Leader
I am delighted to welcome our students and families to Year 8 at Derby Moor.
As students move into their second year of secondary school, Year 8 is an important opportunity to build upon the positive foundations, routines and habits that have already been established during Year 7. Having successfully settled into life at Derby Moor, students are now ready to grow in confidence, strengthen their independence and continue their journey towards achieving their full potential.
Throughout Year 8, we encourage students to take pride in their learning, embrace new opportunities and challenge themselves both inside and outside of the classroom. We want every student to continue developing the values, resilience and determination that will help them succeed academically and personally.
Working alongside our dedicated pastoral team, we are committed to ensuring that every student feels supported, valued and inspired to achieve their best. Whether through academic success, extracurricular activities, leadership opportunities or personal achievements, Year 8 is a year full of exciting possibilities.

Attendance in Year 8
Excellent attendance is essential for success in Year 8. As students continue to build on the positive foundations and routines established in Year 7, attending school every day helps them make strong progress, develop positive habits and take full advantage of the opportunities available at Derby Moor.
Our attendance target is 100%, with a minimum expectation of 97% attendance. This equates to approximately one week of school missed over an academic year. By working together, we can ensure every student is in the best position to achieve their full potential.
We look forward to continuing our partnership with parents and carers throughout Year 8 and beyond.
