Student Leadership at Derby Moor Spencer Academy

At Derby Moor Spencer Academy, we are proud of our thriving Sixth Form Student Leadership Team, made up of 9 Year 13 student leaders and supported by a network of over 30 Year 12 Student Associates. Together, they play a vital role in shaping the culture, values and student experience within our academy.

 

Structure of Student Leadership

Our Student Leadership Team is organised into two key strands, each led by a Student Principal and supported by Deputy and Assistant Principals, each with their own strategic leadership role.

The Academic Community focuses on raising achievement, enriching learning, and celebrating academic success across the academy.

 

Teams within the Academic Community

Peer Mentoring – Led by Rasneet Bhatal

“Our team of Sixth Formers will mentor students in Reading, English and Maths.”

The Peer Mentoring Team supports younger students through targeted academic support and peer guidance to help them excel.

 

Extra-Curricular – Led by Lima Shaji

“We will promote clubs through advertising and generate new experiences for student needs.”

The Extra-Curricular Team promotes participation in clubs and activities, helping students explore new interests and build essential life skills.

 

Ambassadors – Led by Jack Myer-Mills

“We will ensure students are able to be proud and promote their subject learning.”

The Ambassadors Team represents Derby Moor students in academic events, subject promotions, and open evenings — showcasing pride in learning.

The Student Development Community focuses on wellbeing, inclusivity, and creating opportunities for all students to engage and lead within our academy.

Calendared Events – Led by Hibah Yousaf

“We have created an events calendar to celebrate our community.”

This team organises whole-school events that bring the community together to celebrate diversity, success, and shared values.

 

Volunteering – Led by Luke Johnson

“We will have a volunteer team ready to support whole school events such as Parents’ Evenings.”

The Volunteering Team ensures that student leaders are at the heart of key academy events, giving back through service and participation.

 

Student Voice – Led by Nabeelah Alabi

“We will meet each fortnight with Form Reps to get student views and develop leaders of the future.”

Student Voice champions the opinions and ideas of all students, ensuring every voice is heard and influences academy decisions.

 

International Community – Led by Omar Mohamadi

“We will ensure that the students of Derby Moor will get to experience international education through strengthening our bond with sister school Hefei No.8 and developing new links in Abu Dhabi.”

The International Community Team helps students engage with global perspectives, fostering international partnerships and cultural understanding.

The Student Leadership Team at Derby Moor Spencer Academy demonstrates what it means to be a Derby Moor student. They meet weekly as a strategic team and report back to Mr Hall Assistant Principal.
