Welcome to the Library
At Derby Moor, the library is a thriving space for students to relax, read and socialise. The transformation of the library is a great example of the school’s motto of ‘Together We Succeed’ and shows how working as a community can create positive change.
The library is managed by Miss Jones and the team of Student Librarians – allowing students to borrow, return, renew and browse the thousands of books available. Many of these titles have been recommended by students and staff.
KS3 year groups can access the library every fortnight for a dedicated library lesson. This is part of the KS3 English curriculum. This lesson focuses on reading for pleasure and supports the development of student literacy in the academy.
So, come and visit Derby Moor’s library and make friends, relax and discover your next favourite story.
Student Librarians
With a strong team of 31, the Student Librarians have been an incredible and dedicated group of students. They helped catalogue books, build comfy chairs and decorate for every season. The library is only as successful with the amazing enthusiasm and support from this brilliant team.
What is the role?
- To be a positive example in the wider school community.
- As a team, you will help support during events, such as the Scholastic Book Fair, World Book Day and Diwali.
- To take part in exciting opportunities, such as the National Poetry Day display competition.
- Help in the day to day running of the library.
- Be proactive in the development of the library. Suggest bookmark designs, suggesting new books and planning events.
- To create a mindset of ‘always having a book in your bag’ across the school.
- Developing employability skills that can be used in future career pathways.
Students can apply to join the librarian team in January 2026. Information will become available in form time and students can ask the librarian for more details.

Library Transformation
At Derby Moor, the library will continue to transform over the next few years. Our commitment to student literacy and providing a range of safe spaces for students is important to us.
For example, students and staff recommended over 1000 books and every single book was added to the shelves.

The success of the library’s transformation has only been possibly because of every book recommendation, the enthusiasm and getting involved with sorting out the books.
